RACE NO 7 -- The field for Mysore Derby on Sunday looks pretty strong than usual , the only Grade -1 race in a card of nine races framed for the day , here is how i look at the contenders ---
1. BOLD COMMAND -- Arazan(IRE)--Indian’s Feather(IRE) ( 3.5 )
is a geld who seems to be able to do no wrong , a winner of three races from four starts speaks of itself , won last two races of GRADE -3 as a favorite , stable jockey has chosen him over the other stable mate , well rested and with morning workouts indicates he's retaining his sharp form , facing a much speedier field this time , as per my speed figures ( 98.0) is fifth in the list ,
2. BRILLIANT CUT -- Burden of Proof(IRE)--Clear Cut ( 4/1 )
if BOLD COMMAND deserves to be in the top firing line so should be BRILLIANT CUT , the favorite had to be excessive whipped in MYSORE 2000 Guineas to win with a neck , looks like this late bloomer needed that points to claim in here , has massive switch in saddle support , he doesn't need the lead , can settle in latter half of the strong paced field and project his fast finishing ability , may get hammered , giving slight advantage in points ( 98.2 ) for draw and change in saddle support
3. DESERT GOD -- Burden of Proof(IRE)--Running Flame ( 80/100 )
this well bred colt is and should be the main contender to lift the Derby , He won the HYDERABAD DERBY with rather ease , has his partner of COLTS CHAMPIONSHIP back , was bit unlucky in BANGALORE DERBY which he made up later with back to back two Graded race in his kitty , he too likes in to settles in mid bunch before making his power punch in the straight , initially was not in the race but the Trainer who is also a part Owner cum Breeder of the horse decided later to make him run , is third best in my rating ( 99.0) i'm concerned that the pace will be much faster than he has faced in his career then he could be much further back than usual and that could him make just short of the winning post , still there is no denying that this horse ability and distance suitability should be his friends
4. MOGADISHU --- Phoenix Tower(USA)--Leeward Passage(USA)
is a well bred geld , earlier winner of MUMBAI COLTS beating JEFFERSON who went to win two races including POONA WALLA MULTI MILLION a GRADE -3 race at PUNE , subsequent runs were not really upto the mark though has ran and finished up with field , declared hand lacks the temperament required for this type of big races , looks like little under prepared , likes to run in front and can set a pace for the field , has ( 96.0) rating in my card
5. SOUTHERN SURPRISE -- Arazan(IRE)--Priceless Glory
Dr MAM has won Graded race as doosra with white cap on umpteen time ! poor little chap who will much probably be assigned to as be the pace maker for his stable mates can put a big upset ? wont be able to sleep for several nights after that !!!
6. ETERNAL FLAME --- Arazan(IRE)--Yutai ( 5.5 ) ( 7/1 )
well bred classy daughter of Black type mare YUTAI , has six wins from eleven starts , all were below a mile race , though was a front line contender for the BANGALORE DERBY were the filly stumbled on its on to finish a bad 15 lts behind the winner , ran a good race to finish close fourth in Mysore 1000 Guineas , in that too she was the first fav , a bit of underachiever but now with massive switch in saddle support can spark a career best performance for her connections , has best rating ( 99.5 ) in my card
7. FLAMBOYANCE -- Multidimensional(IRE)--Romantic Scene
got penalized for finishing up in BANGALORE DERBY were most of the front contenders took a back seat , but her record other than that is a bit below par , can try to claim stake money by finishing fifth or sixth in my rating its showing ( 98.5 )
8. STAR FORMATION -- China Visit(USA)--Prevalence ( 7/ 1) ( 8/1)
one of the most consistent horse in the field proven over the track , she has done nothing wrong in her career , winner of two races from six starts and placing in other three , speaks for her , got switch in saddle support , this pocket sized dynamite western INDIA import jockey is no push over either , she has booth stamina and speed required to bring laurels to the small Trainer and its connections , has good rating ( 99.5 ) to land the trouble
Finally --
Normally when there more than one favored runner , it is but obvious for the pace maker to set a scorching pace for a come from behind horses , much of which will be told to be avoided by the Trainers but when the pace is too high you have to be up or get left , with many speedy horses in the race there is a chance of wearing out near the winning post , as per my view ETERNAL FLAME / STAR FORMATION / DESERT GOD will have the race much of there liking and should be first three to be at the wire , there is nothing like a sure thing in horse racing and its never over until the all clear cone is hoisted , best of luck and may the best of the lot wins the race
